Alexa Roberts Looking Out Week 13

The Golden Moon is a temporary architectural structure built for the 2012 Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Wonderland.  The pavilion by local firm LEAD explores the combination of Hong Kong's unique building traditions with contemporary design techniques.  The six-story high spherical lantern revisits the concept of a Chinese lantern.  Clad in abstract flames in fiery colors and shapes, it symbolizes the passionate love burning between the moon goddess and her husband.  Built in only eleven days, it demonstrates how complex geometry, state-of-the-art technology, and traditional craftsmanship can meet with simplicity, low costs, and speed.  Even though it was only on display for six days, it welcomed nearly 500,000 visitors.
