Sam Day Looking Out: Week 3

http://vimeo.com/30501143

This is kind of radical and I want to make one of these on a laser cutter. It's nuts it kind of blows me away that wood can have auditory functions and it's been there all this time... You just need a mechanized lazy Suzanne and a needle and it seems like it works.

But in all seriousness I think this project pushed boundaries. It fully analyzes wood... Literally... By tracking its every rib and vein and turning it into a musical database. Maybe not the best sounding music... But this is only one section of a tree... Imagine what other tree rib music is out there. Millions. Jimmy page's guitar solo in 'Stairway to heaven' is probably in a tree somewhere and we just haven't chopped it down and turned it into a vinyl yet... Woah.
