Ana Mernik Looking Out Week 3

Over winter break, my mother and brother decided to take on a couple of home projects. They used leftover pine wood from past projects or wood the neighbors had no use for, as well as Lowe's 2 ft by 6 ft clear kiln-dried aspen panels. All projects took about 3 to 5 hours to make. The most interesting thing, however, is that they worked on the porch in the backyard and used only a hand saw (very different conditions from the many privileges of the CMU woodshop)!

The next picture was my dad's work from a couple of months before. The leftovers from this project were used for the shelves and the the sitting space.

The picture in the bottom left corner is my desk organizer project from freshman year..I guess my mom found better use for it.

Not bad for an adult working at a bank and a college student studying math. Although they had no prior textbook knowledge of wood's strength, grain, and durability, or techniques for sawing, mitering, and mounting, they learned by making - which is more important anyway.
