Looking Out Week 2: Garrett Rauck

Project: Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion
Architect: Snohetta
Location: Hjerkinn, Norway; overlooking Dovre Mountains and National Park

The Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion in Hjerkinn, Norway serves as an educational space for the Wild Reindeer Foundation that can only be access via a 1.5 km hiking trail. An organic mass of digitally fabricated pine beams fills the void created by the rigid steel frame.

One can draw many similarities between this building and the issues brought up in the bath house project, including the potential for a beautifully raw and rugged character. The dramatic contrast made between the rigid/artificial and the dynamic/natural is fascinating. I think there is potential to exude similar qualities and messages in the bath house project.
