Crawford Notch Culture | Horace Hou

Crawford Notch provides a chance for the average family to escape the urban life, with easy access to the area by train and by car. The AMC Highland Center provides an opportunity for people who aren't really outdoors people to experience the Appalachians and the Crawford Notch area. Although the Highland Center also caters to people who go to the great outdoors frequently the center is portrayed as a good place for groups and families. According to Yelp comments on the Highland Center, one user describes the place as "it can be really noisy due to the doors that slam and the kids running around" thus depicting a hectic place that won't really suit frequent outdoors men who need rest and relaxation. Another user comments "your sheets are fresh daily, not all lights are on timers, napkins and paper towels are wasted, and not very much emphasis is given to avoiding waste or using renewable energy"although this might seem very welcoming for hikers who have spent weeks without theses basic necessities it definitely paints a picture of a place that isn't lacking in necessities suitable for families and novice hiker groups. The lodge also has educational programs for adults and children providing classes on hiking and outdoor survival. These courses seem to imply that the center is capable of handling and encouraging people who have little experience in the outdoors to learn and experience the beauty of the Appalachians.
