Ana Mernik Looking Out Week 14

This is Santiago Calatrava's Tenerife Opera House in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, largely contrasted from Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall. An interesting fact: the architect used his sculpture studies from earlier in his career. Because the sculptures had no program or scale, it was easy to manipulate them to fit the opera house. The wave of the opera houses two halls with the capacity of over 2000. They are designed to be adaptable to different performance types and events, from plays to concerts to conferences. This is done mostly with openings that can be opened or closed, to provide the ideal acoustics for the event.
