Chandler Archbell: Looking Out Week 1

Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion by Snøhetta

This observation and education center near Dovrefjell National Park is made out of raw steel and 10" pine timber beams.  Snøhetta created a structure with a simple outer shell and an undulating wood interior.  They relied on 3D modeling software to create the interior and then worked with shipbuilders to mill the beams.  The outer wood was then treated and attached using wood pegs.  This project is very interesting because the architects used two materials capable of very different things and created a space where they engaged each other as well as the structure's occupants.
