Red Rocks Amphitheater is a performance space outside of Denver, Colorado near Morrison located in Red Rocks Park. The 9450 seats rests amongst a near perfect acoustic surrounding. For clarity in voice, percussion and ambience, sound waves need something to bounce off of, this usually involves angled walls and "fuzzy stuff" in many indoor theaters and opera houses.
Red Rocks, on the other hand, does not need these additional features, the large rocks protruding from the "fountain formation" bedrock in Colorado are large enough to nearly enclose the space allowing for sound to bounce off, be absorbed and reverberate throughout the amphitheater naturally.
Duly noted is the elevation of this open air arena. At an elevation of 6400 ft the air is thin and clean in a remote setting allowing for a crisper sound to be heard at a show - a unique feature to this already amazing landmark in Northern Colorado.
