David Stine and Carrie Lebber have designed a piece that shows the advantages of allowing the rugged and rustic nature of wood to stay in this dining table. There is something about it, especially when you look at the stump-like seating that relates to a camp-like atmosphere with an elegant touch.

Almost the entire home is made of either white walls and ceilings, marble, or pine. The pine includes the floors, the doors, the window frames and the beautiful integration of stairs and storage. Extremely functional and efficient, and yet perfectly aligned and aesthetically amazing to the eye. So architecture.

Horace Hou: Looking Out Week 2

This is Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines' for the extension of the Centre Pompidou, the Centre Pompidou-Metz. The canopy that covers the project is made up of hexagonal tiles of wood which reminds me of the waffle grid project we did for IDM last year. The lightness of the material of the canopy compared to other conventional materials allow for the canopy size to be maximised.

Looking Out Week 2 - Charmaine Y

This is the Richmond Olympic Oval in Vancouver, BC, Canada by Cannon Design.  Initially designed for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the building was designed to house the speed skating events but is also adaptable to host other sports.  The wooden ceiling contrasts to the glazing throughout the exterior wall and creates a warmer effect to the ice floor for the winter sports and reflects the flooring for other sporting events and creates a holistic atmosphere with the same material on the floor and the ceiling. 

Fah Kanjanavanit: Looking Out Week 2

This is a project done by UTAA located at the University of Seoul. It is meant to be a resting hole for students to gather. Originally, this space used to attract smokers and people that parked their bikes. The design is made up of wood panels that create a sense of fluidity and creates an inviting place.

Yasmeen Almuhanna: Looking Out, Week 2

  After an ancient wooden church burnt down in Valer, Norway, OOIIOO Architects were commissioned to give the town their new public meeting space. The new church is built from wood to follow the local construction methods of Valer's religious community. The swooping wooden roof serves as a gathering space that allows for views towards the forest, cemetery, chapel, and the old church's ruins. The interior of the church is also built primary from wood. It is open to it's surroundings and lit by natural light.
