This
spiral staircase distinguishes the entrance to a split-level flat designed by a
firm called QC. The flat and this staircase were to be austere, economic,
efficient, and simple by using wood. I really appreciate the simplicity of the
staircase. Wooden blocks are simply stacked one on top of another, creating a
spiral that goes up to the second floor. The blocks are glued and connected
with rods and some of them are fastened on the wall with additional rods. The architects
poured water over the wooden chunks and dried each one in a kiln dryer,
achieving unique cracks and patterns on each step, using the exclusive property
of wood.
