Ana Mernik Looking Out Week 2

Kayaking instructor and boat-builder Brian Schulz found a brass sink at a local recycle center one day and got inspired to build a low-cost, high-sustainability home. He now owns a house in Cape Falcon, Oregon which he built with found local materials, and free materials given to him while he traveled to meet people who would offer unwanted materials. His total cost of construction, made up of mostly wood, was only $11,000.
He admits to making mistakes in his project - the roof pitch is too steep and the front facade is too tall - but he is proud of making the house "architecturally honest" by allowing the "mistakes" in materials (chipped logs or previously used bolts) to show clearly.

"You meet people, you discover new places, you have adventures, you learn things, AND, you come home with beams, windows, doors, and shingles." -Brian Schulz

He also made a home bath house. Link here http://capefalconkayak.com/japanesebathhouse.html
