Looking Out Week 2
This undulating acoustic envelope is in the Masrah Al Qasba Theater in United Arab Emirates. This wall + ceiling is made of polyamide and spandex textile, which is a local traditional building material, stretched over aluminum. The gaps between the folds let just the right amount of light into the theater space. The angle of the folds and bends were computer generated and held in place by aluminum rods. The acoustic insulation and equipment also installed behind the fabric envelope.
